Artist's Comments

"I think that Devika pulled off the frisky, foreign sophistication that my design possessed. I'm very confident, although nervous as hell because this is my first runway." - My short reflection as the design walks down the runway.

"If I call your name, please step forward. Felicidade. Linzwinz. Da-Coppa-One. Israfel03. LRenah. If I have called your name, you are in. The rest of you who weren't called, please remain on the runway" - My legs start to tremble as I realize that I'm not safe just yet.

Placement: *TOP THREE.*

Sheba
Episode 1: Plain and Simple.
Project Designer Cycle Five.

Prompt:

Deisgners, your first assignment is to use white cotton to create a design that represents your personal style, and embodies the word: Frisky. EVERYTHING SHOULD BE WHITE COTTON! NO DYES! The accessories can be any color or material. We should be able to tell that this is YOUR work and that you put time into it.

Materials: Mercerized cotton pique, tawed leather belting and gold accessories.

Garment Details:

The garment is made from a white mercerized cotton pique (I went to Mood to feel the texture). The top composes of an asymmetrical bust, allowing for different sized and shaped sleeves. The back is cowled and connects the shorter, lower sleeve(let) with the longer. A thin, tawed leather belt is wrapped around the lower waist. Under the top is a layered, more gathered skirt of the same fabric draped and wraped to knot at the front and let for extra fabric stringing to fall down. To accompany the garment is golden high-heels, bracelets and earrings.

Further Explanation:

The prompt stated that we needed to produce a design that speaks to who we are as a designer, yet at the same time feel "frisky." The dictionary definition of frisky is playful and frolicsome, yet my experience in the fashion world led me to believe that the word has a more sexual connotation.
My design aesthetic is morely sophisticated and structured rather than overtly sexy, so I knew I had to merge the two concepts into one cohesive design. I kept the design sexy with the sensually melting cowl on the back and short-ending skirt, yet sophisticated and structured front with the asymmetrical bust and low-waisted belt. As a designer, I feel that my designs should as well coexist with the look of the model. Devika is Mediterranean/mid-Eastern, justifying the tawed leather and the flow in the long sleeve and skirt drapery.

Judge's Comments:

Though frisky, the only part of this that would work IRL is the skirt, which is beautifully draped and lovely unless you had a degree in couture sewing...or a seamstress to do it for you. We can see what you were trying to do here, but it's not done well. The shorter sleeve would not stay anywhere and the model would have a wardrobe malfunction... There needs to be a strap or the sleeve needs to sit on the edge of her shoulder. Otherwise, it just would not work...unless it was glued to her shoulder. However, the fabric was brilliant, and the styling was superb.

Thank you for the entry! :)

I have always tried to design things that are unapologetically beautiful, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If I can inspire an appreciation for grace and elegance, that would be the ultimate fulfillment of my life's ambition.

Woah, it's really gorgeous... contratulations. Even if your illustration skills aren't the best in the competition, you really wowed me with the design...
My only concern is, isn't the right sleeve really (gosh, i can't find the word.. my english sucks) 'vulnerable' of falling down with movement, exposing her boobies? :p

Anyways, great job.
:iconkallastyos:
thanks :D I feel as though the other sleeve's hold on her shoulder should prop up the one on the right. Maybe ;-)
